REUBEN JAMES was raised on an eclectic mix of jazz, gospel, hip-hop and classical music but, already, at such a very young age Reuben has demonstrated that he is an exceptional pianist.
His ambition is simple : to bring a new flavour of jazz to the UK scene.
We are delighted to welcome Reuben to his first appearance at Bexley and working with him this evening will be MARK LEWANDOWSKI/bass and ED RICHARDSON/drums

Bexley is in for a real treat this evening.
Band Leader, Trombonist & Vocalist CHRIS DEAN has done - and is doing - it all - from Boy Soldier with the Household Cavalry to major Session Musician, to lead Trombone in the great Ted Heath Orchestra, to Bandleader with his own Great British Big Band and now with his current Leadership of the Syd Lawrence Orchestra.
We're delighted to welcome Chris to Bexley for the first time this evening - together with RODNEY MENDOZA/keys (with whom Chris recorded an LP) - JEREMY BROWN/bass - ROD BROWN/drums.

There are songs and singers ..... and then.....there is MARLENE VerPLANCK
From Big Bands to Studio work, Radio, TV, Clubs and Concerts - Marlene VerPlanck has done it all.
She has the kind of skill which makes her voice a fourth instrument onstage. Marlene clearly loves what she does and still, after all these years, projects the young, unjaded quality of a performer who still wants to share.
We are so fortunate to be able to share an evening with MARLENE VerPLANCK - the Ultimate Professional.
Such talent and skill demands top class backup - and so this evening Marlene's Trio is :
JOHN PEARCE/keyboards - PAUL MORGAN/bass - BOBBY WORTH/drums

ROBIN ASPLAND is an accomplished and hugely talented jazz pianist - aka "The Talented Mr Ripley".
DAVE CHAMBERLAIN is simply one of the best bassists in the country
WINSTON CLIFFORD - arguably the greatest exponent of his instruments on the jazz scene today - and (whenever he feels like it) scat singer. He certainly "makes those skins sing". It's a real experience to watch and hear him.
These three superb musicians have a rapport like no other unit - they play as one - simply sublime.

MARTIN SHAW - one of the country's top trumpet soloists playing with big bands to quartets - cutting edge jazz to contemporary pop & funk. Martin Shaw is a stunning musician at the top of his game.

In 2004 MATT FISHWICK went to live and work in New York where, I suspect, he met up with DiRUBBO. His time in NY gave Matt the opportunity to work with many of the great musicians there, such as John Colianni, Joe Wilder, Anita O'Day, Jeremy Pelt and so very many others.
Matt is now one of the first call drummers on the London scene - also co-leading a band with his twin brother, Steve Fishwick.
MIKE DiRUBBO - Founder of Ksanti Records and powerful New York altoist of great distinction with a big, bold tone, an unerring feel for and remarkable facility on his instrument. We thank Matt for introducing Mike to us at Bexley Jazz Club.
This evening Matt and Mike have great support from no less than :
BILL MUDGE/keyboards and ADAM KING/bass

There is only one ALAN BARNES who, over the years, has won more awards and accolades than can be listed here - but perhaps the most prestigious of which must be the BBC Jazz Instrumentalists Awards 2001, 2006 and 2010 in 3 categories - Clarinet, Alto, Baritone - not, of course, forgetting the Fellowship of the Leeds College of Music awarded in 2003.
Alan is a superb musician and key figure on the British jazz scene - but let us not forget his other great achievement - which is the huge respect and affection in which he's held both by his fans and fellow musicians.
Alan will be backed this evening by JOHN PEARCE/keys - part of the Scott Hamilton Quartet since 2000 and said to be "one of Britain's best kept secrets" : SIMON THORPE, bass and ED RICHARDSON, drums.
