Famously the grandson of the legendary Gertrude Lawrence - Ben was born in England in '55. However, in 1980 - following lessons from Ronnie Scott - he moved to L.A. and studied with Phil Sobel. As a resident in LA, Ben has worked with such as Lionel Hampton, Cedar Watts, Jimmy Cleveland, Horace Silver and has been variously described as a 'master player' - 'sublime' - 'brilliant'.
However, do be warned, Ben's often outrageous humour can bemuse and disconcert ....!! So - on all counts an evening not to be missed.

ALAN BARNES - The multi Award Winning Alan Barnes is back with us once more with music that was radical 50 years back - hard, urban post bop - but inspired with so much passion you could believe it was minted on the spot - which is always part of the story with jazz.
With Alan this evening we are privileged to welcome once more Cincinnati pianist PHIL DE GREG whose main influences have been Bud Powell and Bill Evans - but Phil is equally accomplished and comfortable in a wide range of jazz styles from mainstream to bebop to Brazilian jazz. Among so many others Phil has worked with Scott Hamilton, Greg Abate, Warren Vache, Dizzy Gillespie and Rufus Reid.
Accompanying Alan and Phil will be the superb DAVE GREEN on bass and STEVE BROWN on drums.

Before Joe died on 7th March 2014 he and Colin talked about setting up this event at Bexley. Colin did so and it'll now be performed regularly in loving remembrance of JOE MUDELE who played bass at this Club for over 20 years - subsequently taking on the running and organisation of the Club 13 years ago - together with his wife, Jan Mudele - who will make certain Bexley Jazz Club remains one of the best in the country.
As always COLIN HICKMAN will lead - having made all of the Arrangements for the following superb lineup.
